Saratoga......a poem by Jerome

Saratoga

Lincoln Avenue runs
As straight as a good two-year-old
From Broadway to the track grandstand,
Where old men bet on young horses,
Past a Civil War cemetery
Honoring the remains of young men
Who believed Father Abraham’s
Call to protect the national interest,
And lost their entire fortune
In the eternal photo finish.
